Honolulu resident and Ebay co-founder, Pierre Omidyar, is gearing up for the grand opening of his website Honolulu Civil Beat. Striving to be different, the group of journalists all specialize in specific areas of our local society, including education, land, and even government. Spear-headed by Editor John Temple and his crew of specialists, Civil Beat is working to expand in variety and topics. Currently they have about forty topics.
After reading an article you may want to discuss it in the commenting section at the bottom of each article, but as I mentioned earlier, it comes with a fee. It costs $19.99 to become a member to the website, which allows you to view the articles fully and to comment them. Right now there is a limited-time introductory offer of $4.99 for your first month. They are currently using Paypal for transactions which allows them to monitor their users without the hassle of dealing with anonymous and derogatory comments that public news forums face.
The web site has already launched this week but its official opening day is on May 4th.
