Search Your Own Way
Many of you use Google to find information and products online. Recently Google brought a new search algorithm online, Google Instant. Google Instant searches as you type, displaying results in real time. Some users have noted that the results brought up by Google Instant are more "spammy" than the regular Google Search, meaning that some of the top results have little or nothing to do with the search request.
If your internet connection is slow, Google automatically disables this feature. What you may not know is that you can disable Google Instant yourself. If you find that the results it provides are not as useful as the regular Google Search, then this might be just what you need. Before we get started you will need to be logged on to iGoogle, your personalized search page.
Once you are logged in to your personalized search page, click the “Settings” link in the upper right corner of the page, choose “Search Settings.” This will bring up Google Preferences. Scroll down to the “Google Instant” box, below “Results Window” and above “Subscribed Links.” Click on the “Do not use Google Instant” bubble. Finally, scroll to the top or the bottom of the page and click the “Save Preferences” button.
You have successfully disabled Google Instant Search. To turn it on again, simply go back to preferences and choose “Use Google Instant.” There are several other settings you can change in Google Preferences, read through them and see what else you can personalize to make your search experience better.
