One of the most common scams we see for website owners are false domain renewal notices. These emails urgently warn you that your domain name will be removed from the search engines unless you pay a fee. These fees vary widely, we've seen anywhere from $75 to $300, but even if it were $10 it would be too much because the senders of these emails are not going to "register your domain with search engines" or "renew your domain's subscription". Instead, once you email or fax the company your credit card number they will either make the charge and do nothing for your domain, or worse, steal your credit card and begin making fradulent charges. Know your business partners. Unless your company specializes in website design, hosting, or SEO you've purchased these services from a vendor. Only pay vendors you recognize for website services you understand. The more vague the company name, "American Search Engine Register" for example, the less likely they are to be legit. |
