Google Releases Preview of Caffeine

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Caffeine, it is Google's revamped search tool. User interface changes are negligible in the case of this update. The changes are more "under the hood" so to speak. Caffeine is faster than the old Google search and results generally appear in a different order as well. The infrastructure of Google's search formula has been changed in Caffeine and so far Google is not disclosing what, exactly, the new differences are. When Google says that Caffeine is faster, they are talking about fractions of seconds. It is true that Google does update its search algorithm very frequently and sometimes nearly on a daily basis, but Caffeine is said to be the biggest change in the past three years.

Many people are speculating that Google is releasing this update in response to the new Microsoft-Yahoo partnership, the subject of our last blog. Google has been working on Caffeine for months, however, and insists the events are completely unrelated. There is more testing to be done before it is implemented.

Even small changes in your websites Google listing under certain search terms can mean a big difference. For those of us involved in SEO, it will be necessary to understand Caffeine as thoroughly and quickly as possible in order to adjust to the changes in a beneficial way.
