Home Sales Through Twitter

Social networking has caught on like wildfire, but it's still relatively new. Remember when there were few or no ads to be found on the internet years ago? Well where the people go, the business opportunities soon follow. The trick is to establish yourself to take advantage of potential business platforms before they become inundated by others with the same idea.
An interesting story recently came up about Twitter being used to sell a home. In this case, Twitter's co-founder Biz Stone posted this tweet: "We loved our Wurster cottage in Berkeley but it's time to move - if you're into architecture, check it out". The house was off the market about a month later. Mr. Stone, of course, has a million "followers" who receive his tweets, so that was probably a significant factor. Do you need a million followers to generate interest in a listing? Very unlikely.
If you create a twitter feed for a specific property, you can throw in a sentence or two about all new news regarding it, such as open houses, changes in listing price, number of viewings, etc. For real estate agents in particular, it may be best to focus on a couple of key properties. This helps followers to wonder what it is about this particular property that makes it so important, and that is how you generate interest.
Another good idea, if you are a Realtor, is to throw in little updates having to do with local information so that your followers know that you are knowledgeable about your community, including new real estate developments or events in your area.
